Dr Debjani Mukhopadhyay

I have been accredited as an obstetrician and gynaecologist by RCOG and received my certificate of completion of training in 2013. My extensive experience has made me competent in a wide range of gynaecological problems. My expertise is in the management of post-menopausal bleeding, abnormal vaginal bleeding, ovarian cysts, suspicious vulval disorders and menopause. I am a RCOG accredited colposcopist and perform colposcopy to diagnose and treat pre-cancer under local anaesthesia where appropriate.

After qualifying as a doctor in India, I undertook my postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK. I did my initial years of training in Nottingham University Hospitals. It was a very fulfilling experience for me that honed my skills both surgically and in gaining a better understanding of the patient's expectations.

During my registrar training in the East of England Deanery where the main university was Cambridge, I completed my advanced training specialist module in gynaecological oncology. I also dedicated a year at St George's University Hospital, intensely specialising in open and minimal access surgery for gynaecological oncology. In this time, I have been trained by some really remarkable people who have helped me develop skills and purpose that I treasure to this day. I have presented in many national and international conferences.

Currently, I am a Consultant at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust in Essex. Within my NHS post, I specialise in detection and treatment of early gynaecological cancers: endometrial, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal. I am qualified to perform hysteroscopy, NovaSure and both open and laparoscopic surgeries for benign conditions like fibroids and early cancers.

I can speak Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Bengali.
